Tennessee Media-Reported Fire Fatalities

49 Deaths resulting from fire in Tennessee for 2011

The numbers used in these tallies are based on fire-related fatalities that are reported in the news.  Unfortunately, not all fire deaths make news headlines.  For example, one news story reported 10 fire deaths in the City of Memphis for January of 2010; only 6 made headlines.  "Official" fire fatality numbers are not yet available for the years that are listed.  Therefore, in effort to grasp some sort of "real-time" picture of the State's fire problem, we are left to compare the current year's media-reported deaths with the previous year, and try to gauge the effectiveness of the prevention effort based on those numbers.
